DEDICATION

MELISSA REED

The Class of 1988 respectfully dedicates its yearbook to the memory of
Melissa Reed. Melissa was a fellow classmate and good friend to all. She
contributed much to our class and inspired us with her musical ability. Melissa
was born in Stroughton on May 21, 1970. She attended public school in West
Bridgewater until her death. On July 4, 1987, Melissa was killed in an auto-
mobile accident and is sadly missed by all her peers and relations. To keep her
memory alive in all our hearts, we dedicate this, our 1988 Climber, to Melissa
Reed.

Melissa —

You are the softest rose

floating with the wind,
Overflowing from the love

of thousands who have lived.

Your warmth emanates like
the radiant light of the moon,

As your music whispers
throughout the bright afternoon.

The angels rejoice at the

arrival of your soul,
Your goodness to be pronounced

as every mortal's goal.

Far from being a message

to depart,
The beauty of your spirit

will be forever imbedded

in our hearts.
Felicia Reed

Melissa ... up in the skies of Blue

We know, that you know, that we miss you.

We all have love for you that just can't be

found,
Because, Melissa, you were just the best

around.
You will always remain a special part of our

lives.
You may not be with us, but we still have

your love deep inside.
Without you around, it will be tough.
When it came to your friendship, we

couldn't get enough.
Up in the Heavens, you will play,
and we'll all be up there with you someday.
Round and round our heads do spin
With thoughts and feelings of you, held deep

within.
Melissa, we love you with all our hearts.
It's just too bad that we had to part.
So many of us you helped along,
Just to hear you play your song.
It was so joyful, beyond that words can say.
We just loved to gather around and hear you

play.
You were one of the best friends in the

world,
You were a young, talented, fun-loving girl.
If there was something that we could do to

have you with us today,
You know we'd do anything to make it that

way.
So as long as you are up in the Heavens,
Everything will be OK.
So, for now and forever,
Our love shines with you, just like the sun,
Friends with you, we will always be,
So, for now, our friend —
Peace for eternity.

A Friend

INTRODUCTION

It seems we've spent our whole lives in
school: six hours during the day, extra
help, sports, clubs, plays, homework, and
studying. Is it possible we put in all that
time? Was it worth it? The answers to
these questions are in the next 139 pages.
As you turn each page, remember your
friends, your teachers, and your loves.
These are your memories — to read, cher-
ish, and enjoy!

IN MEMORIAM

MR. PAUL SARGEtmk

IIP

ffl&fS'

The Class of 1988 honors the memory of Mr. Paul Sargent. He was
a superior teacher and friend to both students and faculty. The
impact that he left on our lives can not and will not be removed.
While his presence is sadly missed, his memory lives on forever.

TO THE CLASS OF 1988:

For the Class of 1988, I suggest that you begin to accomplish
your lofty goals today. Perhaps you will say you are not ready
ore time is needed to prepare for your accomplishments.
I would urge you to begin now. Use your youth and your education
without delay.

Consider this advice from John H. Stoke, "When you can think
of yesterday without regret and tomorrow without fear, you will be
on the highway to success." If you use today in the best possible
manner, your tomorrows will be rich with promise.

It is a privilege for me to serve as the Superintendent of
Schools in West Bridgewater. I have enjoyed working with you and
my best wishes go with every member of the Class of 1988.

PRINCIPAL TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1988

Congratulations to the Class of 1988 for the effort expended in producing this
yearbook and for your approaching graduation. Planning, preparation and implementa-
tion have been the keys to your success and should serve to provide a smooth transition
from your public school experience to achieving your personal career goals. Through
individual drive and initiative most of you will develop a definitive workable plan for
achieving your personal ambitions. Some of you, maybe those less prepared and moti-
vated will be apprehensive about venturing into unchartered waters. Whatever your
challenge, I encourage you to seek the opportunity to demonstrate dedication commit-
ment and integrity to your endeavors.

While you are pursuing your individual lifestyles, do not forget your obligation to
others. Because you possess the benefit of a comprehensive education you have a greater
opportunity to contribute to the betterment of mankind than past generations learning
to work together for the welfare of all should be high on your list of priorities.
Remember that each generation has a legacy to bequeath posterity. May your contribu-
tion be an asset not a liability.

As you prepare to celebrate one of the most memorable and happiest events of your
young life, commencement, I wish you success and good fortune.

S. Erick Benson
Principal

ASSISTANT

PRINCIPAL T0 THE MEMBERS 0F THE CLASS 0F 1988

I can not help but be struck by the appropriateness of the feelings of reflection you
will have during graduation day; the remembrance of a special teacher or course, or even
a friend who has helped you to be successful when you yourself might have had doubts.
Whatever it may be, I would hope that you will not forget the symbols or the events
that have connected you to your world.

Dr. Ernest Boyer, President of the Carnegie Foundation, defines education as the
process of discovering connections through the miracle of language and through under-
standing of our heritage. In this year of the bicentennial anniversary of the Constitu-
tion, Dr. Boyers definition could not be more valid.

The courses you have taken were designed to prepare you to live independently and
to achieve whatever you aspire to be. But without your own initiative to go beyond the
basic text, much of what you have learned will fall short.

With this in mind, let me leave you with this challenge. Regardless of your choice of
future career goals, take time during these endeavors to examine how each event fits
into the total picture. For it is the true learners of the world that see the connection
between what we learn and how we live.

CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE
Patrick F. Jackman

GUIDANCE

Graduation is a turning point in your journey through life. Life has so many opportu-
nities for you. You have the power to create so much if you have the courage to create.
Growth can be scary but so fulfilling if only you will believe in yourself and be willing to
risk.

Adulthood offers many freedoms along with responsibilities for yourself and others.
Opportunities will be open to you through participation, involvement, and by acting
responsibly. I agree with Dr. Kanter of Harvard University that we can all become
leaders and find our own power in the world . . . It's there for all of us. She suggests that
first we need to "be present" — to show up. Secondly, leaders are visionary, dreamers
but realistic. Finally, the key to gaining power is to empower others. By sharing, power
grows.

Thank you for sharing yourself with us during your years in West Bridgewater. In
some way, you each created an impact in our lives. Good luck on your journey. Be
prepared and believe in yourself!
